What kind of video does my business actually need?
For most businesses, short form social content and customer testimonials produce more than anything else. Brand films look impressive and rarely get watched. Ad creative needs volume and variation rather than production value.
The video most businesses ask for first is a two minute brand film with drone shots and a music bed. It costs a lot, everybody enjoys making it, and the analytics show an average watch time of eleven seconds. That is not a production failure, it is a format mismatch.
What earns attention now is shorter, rougher and more specific. Someone explaining one thing clearly. A process filmed properly so people understand what they are buying. A customer saying, in their own words, what changed. None of that needs a cinema camera. It needs a good idea, decent sound and a competent edit.
The other thing that changes the economics is planning for volume. One well planned shoot day can produce twenty to thirty short pieces if it is structured for that from the start, instead of one hero film and some offcuts.
- Short form vertical content for Instagram, TikTok and Reels
- Paid ad creative built in variations for testing
- Customer testimonials that do not sound coached
- Process, product and explainer video for websites

What video formats do you produce?
Everything a marketing programme needs rather than everything a production company can offer. Each format has a different job, a different budget and a different measure of success.
Short form social
Vertical video for feeds, cut for the first second to earn the next three. Usually the highest return format for a business account.
Paid ad creative
Multiple variations of hook, message and edit so campaigns have something real to test rather than one expensive asset.
Customer testimonials
Interviews structured to get specific, credible answers rather than the vague praise most testimonial videos produce.
Explainer and process video
Showing how the thing works or what the job involves, which removes more sales objections than any amount of copy.
Brand film
The longer piece, where the business genuinely warrants one. We will tell you honestly whether yours does.
Event and site coverage
Trade shows, openings and job sites, shot to produce a month of content rather than one recap video.
How does a video project run?
Concept and shot list, then a shoot day planned for volume, then editing into every format needed. Planning matters more than equipment, and it is where most of the value is created.
- Week 1
Concept and plan
What the video has to achieve, where it will be watched, and a shot list built to produce many pieces from one day rather than one piece from many.
- Week 1 to 2
Pre production
Location, scheduling, talent, interview questions and any props or wardrobe. The tedious part, and the reason a shoot day either produces a month of content or produces very little.
- One or two days
Shoot
Efficient and structured. We shoot for the edit rather than shooting broadly and hoping, and we capture vertical and horizontal from the start rather than cropping later.
- Week 3 to 4
Edit and deliver
Cut into every format required, with captions burned in because most social video is watched without sound. Two revision rounds included on each piece.
How much does video production cost in Canada?
A half day social shoot starts around 900 dollars. A full day producing a month of content is typically 1,800 to 3,500. Brand films and multi location productions run from 6,000 upward.
| Type | Typical price | What you get | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half day social shoot | $900 to $1,600 | 8 to 12 short pieces, edited and captioned | 2 weeks |
| Full day content shoot | $1,800 to $3,500 | 20 to 30 short pieces across formats | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Testimonial session | $1,200 to $2,500 | 3 to 5 customer interviews, cut long and short | 2 to 3 weeks |
| Ad creative package | $1,500 to $3,000 | 6 to 10 ad variations built for testing | 2 weeks |
| Brand film | $6,000 to $15,000 | Scripted production, multiple locations | 4 to 6 weeks |
| Editing only | $150 to $600 per piece | Editing from your own footage | 1 week |
Travel outside the GTA is charged separately. Editing only is a good option for businesses already capturing usable footage.
Why not just film it on a phone?
For a lot of social content you should, and we teach clients to do exactly that. Phones shoot excellent picture. Where they fall down is sound, lighting, structure and editing, which is where most self shot content actually fails.
| Comparison point | Produced with us | Filmed in house on a phone |
|---|---|---|
| Picture quality | Better, though the gap is smaller than people think | Genuinely good on a modern phone |
| Sound | Proper microphones, which viewers notice more than picture | Usually the weakest part by far |
| Structure | Planned hooks and edits built for the platform | Often one long take with no hook |
| Volume per day | 20 to 30 pieces from a planned shoot | One or two, filmed when someone remembers |
| Cost | Higher per day | Effectively nothing |
| Best combination | Quarterly shoot day for the bulk | Phone footage in between for immediacy |
The approach we recommend to most clients is both: a shoot day each quarter for the bulk, and phone footage in between for anything timely.
What do you get delivered?
Every piece in every aspect ratio you need, captioned, with the raw footage handed over. You own all of it outright, including the material we did not use.
Handing over raw footage is unusual in production and we do it deliberately. It is your business on camera, and there is no good reason for the source material to live only with us.
- Pieces from a full shoot day
- 20 to 30
- Vertical, square and horizontal
- All ratios
- For sound off viewing
- Captioned
- Including the raw footage
- Yours
Video production questions
The concept call is free and usually saves money by narrowing what actually needs shooting.
Ask us directlyHow long should a social video be?
Long enough to make one point. That is usually fifteen to forty seconds for feed content, though a genuinely good longer piece will hold attention. What kills a video is not length, it is a slow start. The first second decides most of the outcome.
Do I need to be on camera?
It helps a great deal for service businesses, because people are buying you. That said, plenty of strong accounts run on process footage, product close ups and staff who are happy on camera instead. It is worth trying before ruling it out.
How many videos can we get from one shoot day?
Twenty to thirty short pieces when the day is planned for that from the start. What limits it is preparation rather than shooting time. A day with no shot list typically produces four or five usable pieces from the same hours.
Do you write the script?
For structured pieces, yes, and we keep it loose enough to sound natural. For testimonials we never script. We prepare questions that get specific answers, because a coached customer is obvious to anyone watching and destroys the credibility you were paying for.
Can you edit footage we already have?
Yes, and it is often the best value option. If you are already capturing usable material, editing only turns that into finished content for a fraction of a shoot day. We will tell you honestly whether the footage is workable before quoting.
Do you shoot outside the Greater Toronto Area?
Yes, with travel charged separately. For clients further out we often run a quarterly travel day and set the team up to capture usable footage themselves in between, which usually works out better than paying for frequent travel.
Who owns the footage?
You do, including the raw material. There is no licence and no restriction on how you use it. If you work with a different editor later, they have everything they need.
